Brig Gen A S M Ridwanur Rahman, afwc, psc, G was commissioned with 23rd BMA Long Course on 21 December 1990 in the Corps of Artillery. Colonel Ridwan has a rich service record of serving in different regimental, staff and instructional appointments at home and abroad. He held different regimental appointments while serving in a number of artillery regiments; and commanded the pioneer Self-propelled Artillery Regiment. His staff experiences at home include service as Grade Three (Operations) and Brigade Major of Infantry Brigades; Grade Two Staff (Operations) in Overseas Operations Directorate in Army Headquarters (AHQ); Acting Grade One Staff in Artillery Directorate in AHQ; and Grade One Staff (Joint Operations) in Military Operations Directorate in AHQ. His instructional experiences include service as Acting Instructor Class B (Platoon Commander) in Bangladesh Military Academy; and Instructor Class B in Tactics Wing of School of Infantry & Tactics. His service under the blue helmet includes Contingent Member of UNIKOM 6 (18 East Bengal) in Kuwait; and Staff Officer (Chief of Staff) of a Multinational Brigade Headquarters in MONUSCO (DR Congo). Beside the mandatory courses, Colonel Ridwan attended Potential Platoon Commanders’ Course; Advance Gunnery Course from School of Artillery, India; Army Staff Course from Defence Services Command and Staff College; Armed Forces War Course from National Defence College; and Advance Command and Staff Course from Joint Services Command and Staff College, United Kingdom. He obtained Master of Defence Studies degree from National University, Bangladesh; Master of Security Studies degree from Open University, Bangladesh; and Master of Defence Studies degree from King’s College, London, United Kingdom. Brig Gen Ridwan is a widely travelled person. He still enjoys playing Football and Cricket. He is happily married; and father of two daughters.
